Uganda faces a unique problem in that only one quarter of the country’s entire land mass is fit for cultivation. If you add to this an ever-increasing population who rely on firewood for fuel and deforestation has become a critical problem in Uganda. As soils degrade and available farming land becomes less and less, the farmers are still expected to provide the same amount of crop yield.

Forward thinking Organisations have risen to this problem and are in the process of distributing two hundred thousand seeds to assist communities in the production of firewood and livestock fodder. This in turn will reverse the negative soil quality and improve land fertility.

With eyes set firmly to the future, our partnering groups have established ninety nurseries across Uganda to enabling the distribution of over four and a half million seeds. The tree planting projects have been well received in the communities and tree nursery management training and agroforestry workshops have helped plant a record seven hundred thousand trees.
